What we do

Housing built for a fixed income.

Goodwill Housing provides stable, affordable shared housing throughout the Sacramento, Roseville, and Placer County region for adults with verifiable income, including but not limited to VA benefits, Social Security, SSI, and other reliable sources of income. We serve individuals who face barriers to securing safe, stable housing and are committed to helping them build a foundation for long-term stability in a supportive living environment.

We partner with hospitals, behavioral health and substance use treatment facilities, VA programs, and parole and probation departments to help individuals transition successfully into the community. Our safe, fully furnished shared homes provide affordable housing for people leaving institutional or structured care settings, offering a stable environment where residents can rebuild their lives and move toward greater independence.

Our inspiration

My brother, Kenneth.

My brother, Kenneth ("Kenny"), is the inspiration behind Goodwill Housing.

For more than 20 years, Kenny experienced homelessness while living with serious mental health challenges and eventually lead to a substance use disorder. After several health challenges and getting hit by a car, our family brought him back home so that our family could provide him with the care, stability, and support he needed. His journey inspired us to create Goodwill Housing to serve others facing the same challenges of homelessness and mental illness.

Before addiction changed the course of his life, Kenny was a devoted father to three beautiful daughters and a hardworking, contributing member of society. In the 1990s, after being seriously injured in different car accident, he was prescribed OxyContin for pain management. When opioid prescribing practices changed, many people who had become dependent on these medications turned to inexpensive street drugs as Kenny did. Like many others during that era, Kenny struggled with addiction, and his life took a dramatically different path.

He has never lost his compassionate spirit. He is kind, generous, and always willing to help someone in need, even when he has very little himself.

In addition to his mental health and substance use challenges, Kenny has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and lives with chronic diabetes.

Today, Kenny still lives with our family. We continue to provide him with a safe, loving, and supportive home as he works through the challenges he faces each day. His resilience reminds us that every person deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to rebuild their life.

Kenny's story is the heart of Goodwill Housing. It is why we are committed to providing safe, stable housing and hope to individuals who have too often been overlooked. We believe that with support, respect, and a place to call home, recovery and healing become possible.

Goodwill Housing was founded by a social worker.
